Sexual side effects of finasteride

Q: Hi Dr. Mohebi, I had been taking 1.25 mg finasteride pills M/W/F and I started experiencing sexual side effects a couple weeks ago.  I’ve since stopped taking the pills and the side effects have decreased.  The side effects have not completely gone away yet.  Previously, I had quit for similar reasons and started up again going from 1.25 every day to 1.25 mg only M/W/F. What do you recommend I do Thanks, A: You need further evaluations besides stopping finasteride to make sure there is no other reasons for the sex drive changes you are experiencing. Since you have […]

Female Hair Transplant?

Q: Hi Dr. Mohebi, I  am a woman and undergone three hair transplants.  The first two were in 2002 and 2003 for 1,200 grafts each. Then I decided to get another one for more fullness.  I am 11 months into my 3rd hair transplant with another doctor. When I review my images one year after my first hair transplant of 1,200 grafts it seems like I had more hair then than now after additional 2,600 grafts.I am very disappointed at the loss of 2,600 irreplaceable grafts and need to see if I am a good candidate for a fourth hair transplant surgery. […]

Scars from Secondary Hair Transplant Surgery?

Q: Dear Dr. Mohebi, I had a couple of hair transplant surgeries (FUT) in the past (about 12 years ago), and would like to do another surgery now. I have a question regarding the scar line in the back of my head. I obviously have a line now, but what I need to know is if you can use my current scar line as a part of your transplanted hair area, or if you would create a new scar line if I do another surgery? In other words, does a patient like me (who had surgeries before) end up with […]

How to improve a plug surgery?

Q: Dr. Mohebi, I had a surgery in 1991. At the time it was better than being bald I thought. But the joke even in my house is “Doll Head.” Is there any help for guys like me; can you repair older plug-like transplants? I am anticipating your answer. A: Absolutely, there is hope for you.  In fact, we perform a few repair hair transplant surgeries every month.  Mostly for people like you with plug hair transplants from the past; modern advancements and techniques have really increased your options.  Most people could use Follicular Unit Transplant (FUT) to restore the […]

Female hair loss, miniaturization and hair transplant

Q:   Hi Dr Mohebi, Thank you for your detailed report on my hair loss. I have a few questions and comments that I forgot to ask at the time of my visit.  According to your report, I have 20% miniaturization almost all over my scalp so does this mean, I will completely lose all the hair on my scalp? I would like to get some hair extensions to give more density to my hair, is this a good idea? The hair extensions will not be with glue or any chemical it will be non-damaging to the existing hair (have an appointment […]

Genuine Hair Loss Treatment vs. Online Fallacy

Q: Dear  Dr.Mohebi, Salam; I would like to introduce myself as a man, 43, engineer with master degree, single and currently living in Iran. As far as I remember my hair has started to shed when I was young, I would say around 18 years old. On that time I visited several dermatologists in Iran they prescribed me with Betametazone to put it on the scalp and I already got shot Vitamin E. The top of my head became thin and the skin is seen easily. About 10 years ago Finastride and Minoxidil were introduced to the market of Iran. I first […]

Women Athlete’s Hair Loss

Women athlete hairlines

Do female athletes experience male pattern hairline recession?   Q: Dear Dr. Mohebi, Recently, when watching the Olympics I noticed that the female swimmers seemed to have very recessive hairlines even at very youthful ages. This was highlighted by the US Olympic Women’s Swim Teams Medal Platform Pictures. In this image all but one of the medalists has exceptionally receding hairlines for women. Is this just coincidence or could it be from the use of male hormone performance enhancing drugs. Or is it that, women with this high athletic capacity have a higher level of male hormones adversely affecting their […]

Permanent Side Effects of Propecia – Real or Not?

Q: Hi Dr. Mohebi, Trust you are well. It was a pleasure meeting you in Los Angeles back in June. I had a few concerns about taking Finasteride and wanted to have your opinion before taking the medication. I read few articles that side effects of finasteride include impotence, abnormal ejaculation, decreased ejaculatory volume, abnormal sexual function, gynecomastia, erectile dysfunction, ejaculation disorder and testicular pain of which I experienced some of them when using the medication back in 2010. It was also stated that patients have reported persisting erectile dysfunction despite discontinuing the drug. I do feel this is also the case for me at times. Do I need to consult with a Urologists?  Would […]
